Indian Kids Postcard Project, 2016

“Almelkar Inspired”

This is a gallery of Original Postcard Art done by the teenagers, age 10 - 16, of Apne Aap Womens Collective, Mumbai, India.

This year is the first time the girls have drawn faces. I was apprehensive about it, but they took to the challenge with great enthusiasm and came up with some wonderful results! Once again I have to thank NGMA, Mumbai for allowing us to draw in their galleries. For this year's project we visited their show on the art of A.A. Almelkar, a famous Indian artist who was influenced by Moghul miniature painting but drew his subjects from daily life. The girls sketched from his pictures in the gallery and then drew their finished postcards in our workshops.
